I'm kind of annoyed at my (both RL and online) fellow artist friends. They all keep regularly reblogging those "you have to help fellow artists by reblogging their stuff, not just liking it uwu" posts and yet every single time I upload some new artwork, they all like it but not a single one of them reblogs it, even though I go out of my way to reblog their shit (unless it's fanart that I don't know - so I don't expect them to reblog my fanarts but most stuff I do is original anyway so...).

It just feels so hypocritical of them and it pisses me off.

(Inb4 'lol your stuff just sucks' - I may not be the most flawless artist, but I am reasonably good and at least on a lot of my friends' level so that's not the issue.)

It's so easy to reblog stuff that people do it brainlessly, without putting much thought into it. It's more about them looking good and supporting the right cause than actually having any solid convictions.

Obviously I'm not you because I'm evil, but I'd be temped to screencap their post in such a way that it shows their username on the "you have to help fellow artists by reblogging their stuff, not just liking it uwu" and attach it to your artwork posts. But then I'm a giant bitch.

Believe you me, I am very tempted to do just that. If they were just anonymous online acquaintances, I even might. But since they are also mostly people I know offline, it's just not worth the inevitable drama.

Huh. I get yelled at when I *do* reblog people's stuff to help them.

Your friends seem to have an embarrassing lack of self-awareness, or they're being dumb. Do they reblog other people's stuff and just single your stuff out as something to not reblog?

I've seen them reblog each other's art and that of other people as well, (defnitely more often than I've seen them reblog mine - which is basically never) so yeah, I kind of feel singled out. I'm not aware that I did anything wrong that they would kinda shun me or something, I quite honestly think they're just being self-absorbed, but it's still annoying because quite a few of them really like to pretend they're the nicest, most altruistic people ever when it comes to supporting fellow artists.

My rent got raised again. That's twice in a year.

I'm even more frustrated because come June, I was FINALLY going to hit a level of financial stability where I wouldn't have to rely on the boom-and-bust cycle of cons and Etsy sales, and now come September, I'm going right back on the goddamn treadmill.

My roommate says she can cover me, but I don't want her to do that, you know, because I like her and it's not HER fault that the Social Security system keeps barfing paperwork errors at me. I CAN pay it right now, it's just that edge of worry that I'll be forcibly priced out of the city I love that upsets me.

All I want is rent, utilities, plus $200 for everything else. Why is this so goddamn HARD?
