I'm just wondering if there are any pairings where it is actually a pattern/trend for the taller/bigger character to typically be the bottom and usually not the other way around, not just "hey here's this one fic I read where the tall guy is on the bottom."

If I recall correctly, Loki/Tony has a lot of bottom Loki.

Sooooort of...ish...in Legolas/Gimli fanfics (which are mostly bookverse) Legolas is usually on the bottom, but while he's definitely a lot taller than Gimli, in the bookverse he's not necessarily bigger than him - dwarves are often interpreted as more short and brawny rather than small, and elves often as very slender and ethereal, in bookverse fanfics.

So I think the stereotypical there is actually pretty much the same, in spirit, as in most pairings, except with a lot of that "legs draped over the shoulders" sexual position.

True. There is also a lot o bottom!Thranduil, as far as I've seen, in the Thranduil/Thorin fandom.

Haha, legs-draped-over-the-shoulders is one of my favorite sexual positions to visualize, but I don't ship a whole lot of pairings where I can believe the characters could be that flexible. An elf sure could though.

Flexible elves are great. Actually, now I really want to write a legs over the shoulder fic. Adding it to my list of things to write.

Alec/Magnus seems to be in favour of Alec being the bottom atm, but there is still a fair bit of bottom!Magnus as well(which suits me fine because I'm happy with either).

Yeah, both are nice (though I really enjoy bottom virgin!alec). I wish there was more smut in this fandom though! Are there any places to find fic other than Ao3?

I've not really found much outside of Ao3 tbh, a couple of tumblr's that post some fic maybe but a lot of that ends up on Ao3 anyway.

That'd be cool but it seems like those have died, the only ones that manage to keep chugging are the ones from older fandoms that are still going.

If I knew how to make one, I'd totally do it. I think you just have to promo the fuck out of them.

And I think it would have a chance because a lot of the people I see getting into Shadowhunters are the ones from the SPN and CW fandoms (that have strong kinkmeme presences).

IIRC Kirk/Spock (at least in TOS) is pretty evenly distributed, except in pon farr plots.

Are either of them particularly bigger than the other?

Spock's a good bit taller than Kirk (though not really "bigger").

And tbh, I've seen the "short guy goes on bottom" thing overrun pairings with only an inch or two of difference.

For Haikyuu, Iwaizumi topping Oikawa seems to be more popular in Western fanfic. However, for doujins, it seems that Iwaiumi bottoming is more popular. Oikawa is only three inches taller, but I guess it's a pairing that flip flops.

The few Yamaguchi/Tsukishima doujinshi that made their way onto the Internet have Yamaguchi topping in a surprising number of them. (Yay!)

Harry/Draco might fit this one? But don't quote me on that, I think there are plenty of fics that chuck canon altogether and make Draco the shorter one anyway to go with bottom status.

Most of the Doctors are taller than most of the Masters, but the Master tends to top more (though far from exclusively).

Last I checked, the top/bottom debate was the one of the only sources of wank in the Kylo/Hux fandom, with a pretty big number being very, very firm believers in top!Hux. I think that's also the majority in smut type fic, but I don't really like it because I find it a bit OOC.

I ship giant muscular Alex Louis Armstrong from FMA with almost everyone and he always bottoms. Or at least switches.

The Eagle is great for it. There's a good 15-20cm height difference between the actors in the film. Not much activity these days, though.
