100% cosigned

I just can't stand anything about the visuals of the movies, really

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Not even the Shire? I've never heard of anyone not liking the visuals of the Shire.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
I don't. It's so ersatz.

At least it's not teal and orange? Small mercies?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Came here to say this. And you can go ages without something exploding or the director shoving an actress' tits or ass at the screen. It is a whole different paradigm.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd prefer teal and orange tbh

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't, simply because teal and orange is inescapably present in EVERY FUCKING ACTION MOVIE EVER, whereas the grey-green is only really a thing in the LOTR movies.

No kidding. I like it in Fury Road, but it's so amped up and bright there that I can't help it. Everything else... eeeeh... can I please see things in the colors they were meant to be?

I love it! But then, green in all variations is my favourite colour. *g*

Aw. I'm sorry, OP. Personally, I find the visuals of these movies completely stunning. I never tire of them. I never really noticed the color scheme per say, but I do love the way the movies look.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Per se.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Better than the current omnipresent orange or blue.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It does get a bit tedious, but I actually only noticed how limited it was after consuming a lot of fanart (and Tolkien's watercolors) that have vastly more varied and colorful and contrasting color schemes. When I watched the movies I thought the visuals were really stunning (still do, even if now I wish there was more color variety) and a very welcome departure from the far more relentless blue-and-orange of 99% of all other action movies.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Tolkien's watercolors are really cool. I know he personally thought his art wasn't good enough for publication, but I thought they were really beautiful and evocative even if they were technically somewhat rough/amateurish. You can tell how vivid his mental images of the locations were and how he tried to translate them onto paper.

I didn't know Tolkien did watercolors until you just said. I looked them up and they're gorgeous.

As mentioned above, the fact that at least it isn't blue and orange is an automatic huge plus in my book.

Also, I sort of think that the grey-greenness of the Eriador region made the non-grey-green parts stand out more? Like the Shire, or Mordor, or the plains of Rohan - it made it easier to say "okay, yeah, this is definitely a different region we're in now."

I wasn't a huge fan of the greyish color scheme of the interior sets though. They all looked kind of the same.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Awww, sorry, OP. I didn't mind it, personally.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-21 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
You know all the super-desaturated, or teal and orange, it really makes me miss actual legit old school Technicolor [TM]

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
IKR?

It makes me want to rewatch the colorized version of the Wizard of Oz.

I like that color scheme because I love those colors, but I can see how someone who isn't as into those colors might get a bit tired of it

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I loved it, because it is the colour of New Zealand. There were also blue skies, white snow, gold plains for Rohan and the dark stone of Moria and Mordor. And I appreciate a world without electricity that isn't harshly lit indoors!

(Anonymous) 2016-05-22 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I came here to say this. I didn't notice anything particularly distracting about the trilogy's colour scheme, but then I've lived in NZ all my life! It's just the way it looks.

I think green-and-earthy makes sense for Middle Earth.
