Partly off topic, but I worry about what we're doing to the trans community. I worry that we might helping them to succeed to death. Like I think of all we did to push gay acceptance in the 90's and 2000's, We turned them into the cool hip thing to be shown in progressive media, and now we see gay men like Milo Yabbadabbadoo and Stephen Fry thinking they're too good to be progressive and being utter contemptible scum. I wonder if we're pushing and celebrating trans people too hard and turning them into the worst of us.

Pft, as a trans person living below the poverty line and who spent time homeless, who knows other trans people who are homeless, disowned, or pushed into sex work... I could stand to see more success pushed our way.

Seriously. Being thought as tryhard liberal scum is way, WAY better than being homeless.

I'm more worried about being fetishized as a trans person, but yeah I could stand to be treated like a little mascot if it meant I could get through a job interview without being automatically bounced as soon as the interviewer sees me.

I know, right? I mean, god save me from the chasers, but at least I'm USED to being sexually harassed/assaulted all the time, and can compensate for it better than being homeless. Plus having a safe base to return to makes the sexual danger a little less glaring.

I think what they're saying is that a lot of successful gay people have let that success go to their heads, and said "fuck the rest of the gay community 'cause I got mine." We're already seeing that with Caitlin Jenner, so I think AYRT may have a point, there.

Caitlin Jenner was a dick back when she still had one, though. Transitioning doesn't come with a personality transplant.

I feel sorry for her actually, she is crashing hard in terms of privilege-loss. She started talking about how great she could make things for trans people in the GOP, but then she was told to go piss in the mens room with the rest of the trannys. She doesn't understand why people don't listen to her no more.

Doesn't the whole "fuck everyone else, I got mine" sentiment happen to lots of people who make it big, though? I mean, it's not exclusively a trans, gay, or LGBTIAQ problem, it's a "power/money corrupts" problem. So are marginalized groups supposed to avoid success so they can avoid ever becoming selfish shitlords who hoard privilege?
