I remember reading about women who didn't consider themselves Muslims anymore but still wear the hijab out of cultural solidarity, so this seems like kinda the same thing?

I'm not Muslim, but I am a transwoman and sometimes a Burqa actually helps daily life. SO go with what you like for whatever reason does it for you.
