All the rape threads we have here that all have (I'm assuming) the same few people talking about how it's literally the worst thing that can ever happen to a person (genuinely worse than death) make me feel all the more alienated and weird regarding my own rape.

It was awful, but I got over it. Like...it didn't end my life. But people acted like it should have. People got mad because I wasn't acting like it ended my life. It was everyone else's reactions that traumatized me, not the actual rape itself.

I'm still working through that, and the reactions surrounding it remind me so much of what people put me through that it definitely takes me a couple of steps backwards in my progress. :/

I'm a childhood sexual abuse survivor, and the reactions in that thread yesterday were really upsetting to me, too. How fucking damaged do you have to be to willfully ignore that not all survivors process sexual assault in the same way.

I think I understand.

You really shouldn't be that profoundly affected by being raped. It's a bad thing that happened to you, then it's over. I can see how if you got an incurable STD or got pregnant it would be more dramatic.

It's just something that a lot of people build up into this big mystical thing.
