Blake Lively is a rich white girl from suburban Southern California who's identifying herself using a term that's linked to the description of women from a much poorer, predominantly African-American community which she isn't a part of, to describe her body in a way that was for a long time looked down on by mainstream white beauty standards.

She don't have an Oakland booty, is the problem, and she shouldn't claim the identity of the kind of person who has an Oakland booty when that's extremely not who she is

You sound like a prissy, uptight schoolmarm.

I don't know what to tell you, man

Da

Not really tho. Anon explained it perfectly.

Yes really tho.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-23 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
No. They explained it perfectly, without sarcasm or rudeness. Their explanation was basic as any textbook.

"Now children, today we're all going to learn why racism is bad and wrong and what white people should and should not do."

Fuck lectures. Fuck what holier-than-thou schoolmarms think white people should and should not do.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-23 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
So, like, you object to the concept of talking about racism in general?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-23 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
If it includes the word "should" or "shouldn't," yes. That's not a discussion. It's a sermon.

"Tho" is AAVE. Please stop using it.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-23 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
What is AAVE?

African-American vernacular English.

So... a common lazy shorthand is now being ascribed to one particular subset of Americans and no one else can use it. Oh. Okay. What about 'thru'? Or 'ok'? Can we use those?

No, "tho" as an abbreviation has been used since the Revolutionary Wr and throughout the 20th century in correspondence by American white people.

Slang wasn't invented by black twitter tho.

You do realise that physical and mental segregation is NOT the answer to societies ills, right? We tried it, in the US and other places toi, and it doesn't work.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-23 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Society's, damn it.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-23 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah I think segregation is great that's exactly the point I'm making

(Anonymous) 2016-05-23 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
This is not about segregation.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-24 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
If only certain cultural or racial groups can use specific words or phrases then that is mental segregation. Physical separation of races and cultures is only a step behind.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-24 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
No

(Anonymous) 2016-05-23 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
If that isn't an Oakland booty, I'd hate to see what is. It'd block out the fucking sun.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-23 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, setting aside any questions of race or identity: You've really never seen a butt bigger than that?

(Anonymous) 2016-05-23 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Not on an otherwise normal body, no.

Plenty! But that is a booty that I'd look at and say "Dayumnnn, did that shit come from oakland?"
