I find any kind of gatekeeping pretty insufferable.

On the other hand I can't help but feel a small twinge of disappointment whenever someone won't try something new that I enjoy just because they think they won't like it. Because then, even if they do try it, there's always a chance they'll say they didn't like it - even if they did - due to the Will to be Right or simply having their negative expectations colour their experience. Is that elitism? People aren't obligated to try new things.

nah that's not elitism. It's understandable to want people to try things you like and be sad when they don't. as long as you don't push it I don't see the problem
