I remember some very perceptive things being said on the topic when the idea of Idris Elba as Bond came up. That we are broaching him because he's 'The' black actor RN, instead of the litany of other possible choices. People weren't discussing a Black Bond, they were discussing Elba Bond. And from a progressive standpoint, if the role isn't actually open to the Everyman of colour, that's not a whole lot better.

Being THE black actor or being THE Hollywood darling at any given moment isn't necessarily about talent alone, though.

Denzel Washington is the obvious Black James Bond pick circa 1990s, but he's 61 now and a little old for the role. The franchise will want someone who 1) can still credibly do the action scenes (no repeats of Roger Moore's geriatric Bond!) and 2) won't die mid-movie.
