I can't help but shake this feeling that I lost a lot of followers of my art after I switched from doing fan art to mostly original/personal art a while back. I figured that would happen, but still... ouch. But, while sobering, it only motivates me to work harder on my stories and making my characters appeal to people.

On an unrelated note, I saw Civil War again last night and now I kinda sorta ship Steve/Bucky and Steve/Sam for some reason, too. And I'm kinda annoyed with myself for it, because normally I'm not into the Earth-bound side of the MCU (I'm totally into it for Guardians of the Galaxy) otherwise, lmao.

I feel you on the art thing. One of the most difficult things for me when I started writing original stuff was realizing that hardly any of my fandom friends who loved my fics actually wanted to read it.

I knew it'd be a challenge going in, but in spite of the difficulties? I'm the happiest I've ever been when it comes to creating art for the first time in years. I guess that should balance everything out, haha.

And at this point, I'm not so much bitter at my fan art as I am wondering "How can I present these things as potentially interesting to others", if that makes any sense. I think that's the big challenge a lot of people making the transition from fanwork to original work face.

Yeah, that's a tricky transition. I'm almost glad I never had any aptitude for fanwork, because I imagine it would've been much harder to switch over otherwise. (I mean, I've done a little fanfic/fanart. But the sort of attention and response I've gotten is WAY different than my non-fanwork. As far as I can tell, fanwork might get the quick infusion of attention, but my non-fanwork PAYS, even if there's no comments or kudos or a sign they've seen it otherwise.)
