I kinda didn't perceive it as a romance. They were sexually attracted to each other, they each needed an ally...at the end, they aren't even together, really. They go separate ways, and her "come visit soon" meant to me "there's still some things we need to talk about, and also, we should fuck again".

They did look stunning together, though.

In the book, Jonathan and Jed end up together as a couple. But then in the book, Roper gets away and isn't punished for his crimes at all.

Yeah, I know. And in the book, Angela was a guy, and they were in a whole other region of the planet. And so on. I think they updated the book to suit their needs/modern times, and that included the relationships. *g*
