Re: Controversial Opinions/Thoughts

This isn't internet unpopular, but it seems to be RL unpopular:

I'm tired of people with disabilities being lorded over as miracles. It's tiring. And why is it that if you comment on an inspiration porn article saying "I find this patronizing," all the people praying to Jesus in the comments suddenly call you a bitch? Talk about hypocritical.

The only thing that makes me uneasy is when parents of kids with autism and other disabilities come across as demeaning, because I don't want to tell them they're patronizing their own kids.

Just... those of us who are "specially different" (gag) don't exist to give you brownie points. Stop it.

You realize most people with disabilities actually share this opinion, right?

AYRT - I'm confused. I know that, and I have a disability myself, so. I'm talking about able-bodied, neurotypical people who say a video of a man talking to a woman in a wheelchair made them cry rainbows.

Agreed

All those "autism parents" who make themselves out as huge martyrs for having an autistic kid seem to have a bad case of Munchhausen By Proxy. And their kids would probably be a little better off , and better managing their condition if they didn't have parents whose primary interest was pimping them out for attention points.
