Re: What are your thoughts on virginity?

I don't know. I wish I wasn't one. I'm actually in a pretty good mood right at the present moment, so I can't really summon up the feelings that I have, but it's a pretty major part of my thoughts when I get depressed and do the thing where I'm lacerating myself with self-criticism. It's just hard to escape the conclusion that it's not an indictment of your worth when everyone around you has had sex and you haven't, and when society places the premium on it that it does. It's hard to believe that it won't go on forever and it's hard not to feel like an alien and wonder what's wrong with you. It's a component of frustration and loneliness. And it sort of makes you doubt yourself - or it makes me doubt myself - in a lot of situations - in anything where you're talking about romance or intimacy or comparing yourself to someone else, because hey, they seem awful and insane but then again they've had sex and you haven't so who knows, maybe they are actually right about everything. It's an endless spur for self-doubt and I don't need any of those in my life.

I could talk about it more if I was in a worse mood but yeah. I'd be happier if I wasn't a virgin. I don't think there's anything wrong with not having sex and I think I have a pretty realistic sense of self-worth in non-sex related things when I'm not depressed, but it still really bums me out. And I'm hugely insecure about it because how could I not be insecure about it, you know?

Yes, THIS, so much. Other comments are seeming to see if as if virginity is something that society sort of promotes, when IMO it's actually more often something that you get shamed for.
