What peice of media confused you the most?

Obvious examples and non-obvious welcome.

House of Leaves. Mostly because I read it over such a long period of time and would often forget whose font was whose.

Less obvious, Snowpiercer. I wanted to watch it before the US release (which took forever) so I downloaded a copy offline (I know, I am a terrible person). I watched it and enjoyed it. But I remember thinking it was an odd choice not to translate everything the two Korean (father and daughter) said. Especially considering the long speech he gives at the end.

I watched it several times for the visuals. Months later it was on Netflix and I decided to watch it with my sister. Imagine my shock when all those parts were translated and I realized the problem was that those subtitles are not hard coded into the movie.

HOL is one of those books you kind of have to stick with, yeah. I love it, but my reading habits are pretty bad these days and I don't know if I'd be able to hold on to another reread. Especially since it doesn't seem to translate well to ebook format, which is how I usually get my reading done (it's just so much easier to read on my phone than carry a book with me at all times.)

The (80's?) Dune movie, I've watched it as an adult too and I still have no idea what's really going on. It didn't help that I've never read the book, but the BBC TV mini-series they did was much easier to follow without knowing the source material.

I have trouble following the movie and the book is one of my favorite books. I've read it dozens of times. That movie was such a bad adaption. I love the miniseries, though. They changed some things, but they got the basic gist of it.

Most of what David Lynch did.

The first thing that came to mind is a Kazuo Ishiguro book called The Unconsoled. It has this dreamlike quality where someone it seems like the main character just met turns out to be his father and he's told he has to go somewhere and oh that's just on the other side of the building he's in somehow. I don't think I'm explaining well but I've never come across anything that felt so much like a dream, even things that are supposed to be about dreams. Just that feeling where things are changing but everyone goes with it and acts like it makes perfect sense. And I just wandered along wondering what was going on.

Is Neon Genesis Evangelion too obvious?

I get the ending, I just think it's stupid.

Good movie otherwise though.

Just take some drugs and pretend you're at a laser light show.

Memento confused me because I thought I understood it, but then articles were talking about something that I didn't and still don't see in it.

What did they see in it that you didn't?

That he killed his wife. I still don't see it. What I got was that he'd already killed the man who killed his wife, but most of the articles on it say he's the one who killed his wife.

As I understand it he did kill her, because the story about Sammy Jenkins was actually about him. He did kill his wife's attacker because the attack where he ended up with anterograde amnesia and she was raped actually did happen, but she survived to live with him and his condition for a while.

But that's probably what you already read so I'm probably not actually helping here.

Yup, that's what I read. I've gone back and watched the movie since, and I still don't see it. That's why the movie confuses me. I know what I'm supposed to see, but I don't see it.

I think there's supposed to be a specific order you watch it in for it to make sense - some sort of Easter egg hidden on the disc

right now, it's the novel version of Cujo. I feel like I'm reading six different plots at once. [I've read that he was on drugs/drinking heavily while writing this one and boy is it showing]

To The Lighthouse. We had to read that horrible, boring, confusing, irritating, book in one of my college lit classes and I to this day have zero idea what actually happened in it, even though I reread several sections multiple times trying to figure out who the characters were and what they were doing.

Wow, no-one posted Donny Darko?

Did everyone get it and I'm just an idiot?
