NGL freckly Finrod sounds adorable and honestly it...kind of makes sense? I mean, not in a supported-by-canon=info way, but like, if Tolkien was the kind of writer who DID use distinctive appearance descriptions to align with a certain personality, Finrod would be the type of character who might have a lot of cute childish freckles to indicate gentleness and earnestness (yes I know he chewed a werewolf to death but I mean the rest of his life.)

Chewed a.......?????? werewolf??????????

Okay that clinches it, I think I'm finally gonna have to read this book. I've meant to about ten different times in the past few years but never managed to get a start on it.

Yes. Elves may be pretty, but they are also really badass. The movies don't quite capture it. First age elves are even more so.

Besides Finrod, there is Fingolfin who challenged the main bad guy (who was probably 10 feet ish and powerful and wielded a giant hammer) alone knowing he was going to die just so his people could see the bad guy could be wounded. Then there is Luthien who took on both Sauron and the main bad guy with just a giant dog in order to rescue the man she loved and win his quest for him. And she won both times. And there are a lot of others too. Tolkien's characters in the Silmarillion are pretty epic.
