God, you're smart. Thankfully, I manage to axe most of everything I need out with 'politics' 'racism' and 'police brutality,' but GODDAMN am I tempted to add the 'why is nobody' 'friendly reminder' 'like wildfire' and 'if you don't reblog.' Seriously, it's like tumblr discovered the chain letter and decided to turn it into an act of political passive-aggression.

I also have a general catch-all of *ism, for literally anything that ends in -ism, and then I whitelist things I do like, such as optimism. (I have police brutality, police, and cops blacklisted as well)

I had a fun time when I realized that blacklisting "rapist" also blocked the word "therapist". Or 'rape' also caught things like "grapes" and "skyscraper". I have a weirder whitelist!

But yes, feel free to add in the chain letter idiocy, you catch so many little things that way. I follow mostly smart people who don't buy into that kind of nonsense, but there's always that one thing that gets e v e r y o n e riled up and they post it. And sometimes I get riled up too, but after seeing the same goddamn post six times I'm like "alright, enough, I'm woke already fam, let's go back to talking about cartoons".

Yeah, I tried to blacklist 'death' and that just totally failed because it meant EVERYTHING would get axed, even folks who had death as part of their screenames. *sigh* And yet, the one screename I set out specifically to block still pops up on my dash sometimes.

I actually had to stop following someone I liked for a long time just because their tumblr became actively unpleasant and upsetting for me to read, combined with them making pronouncements and then putting up more about how many followers they lost, so I KNEW that I couldn't slide out the back door without being noticed. I mean, eesh.

I think if I were on tumblr more than once like every three months or so, I would blacklist "if you don't reblog". And I don't even blacklist that much stuff outside spoilers. But the whole "reblog this or you're a terrible person!" shit is SO STUPID. same thing on Facebook. "Like and share if you believe X!" No

Yeah. My most recent "dear god why" thing was how someone did a very informal tumblr poll about Dragon Age avatars, and then it became this very heated thing about racism and digital blackface.

And I was just like... I don't know. It probably honked me off way more than was reasonable, but it was like, "Oh yeah, now I remember why I don't follow this person anymore."
