Re: Alcohol

nayrt but I understand where they're coming from because I'm the same way. My whole adult life, I've politely refused drinks in social situations. Not any moral or religious reasons but because I can't stand how it tastes. It tastes horribly bitter. I can't get down a single swallow of beer without gagging involuntarily. So I say thanks, but no thanks, and then people want to know why, and I shrug and say I just don't like it and it's no big deal, I'll just stick to coke or water.

But then people inevitably fall over themselves to inform me that I'm mistaken about my own personal taste preferences and if I only tried this exotic liquid called "vodka" or "Everclear" that I clearly haven't heard of before because I live under a rock, and then drank it in a mixed drink or a cocktail, I'd love it! Because then I couldn't taste it! That's my cue to shake my head regretfully and say, no, honestly, I CAN taste it. Yes even mixed with juice. Yes even in sweet, girly cocktails with paper umbrellas in. Yes even in Jello shots because I have tried all those things. But it's no big deal, I'm fine, I promise, you go have fun and I can be your designated driver if you need me to.

I went to a Big Ten college. Repeat this several dozen times every single year. Anon got shirty with you and philstar22 and that wasn't great on their part, but... I understand.

yeah but

none of what you're describing applies here, it's literally two people saying "well we've had good experiences with vodka" and that's it, there's no conspiracy, there's no pressuring, nothing at all that would warrant this kind of reaction -- and I'm 100% certain it's not even the OP

But it's not "we've had good experiences with vodka," it's "vodka has no taste." If other people think vodka has a taste, they can contest the latter statement.

yeah but philstar aside *I* certainly never said anything to that effect and yet I got some anon up my ass. I said "especially vodka" because I like the taste of vodka-oriented mixed drinks as opposed to something with, say, rum in it. This isn't a hard concept to grasp.

"You can't go wrong with mixed drinks, particularly vodka."

Anon was being snippy to you, but unfortunately, someone who doesn't like the taste of alcohol absolutely can go wrong with mixed drinks, including vodka.

I don't know what else you expected me to say?
