I actually agree with this. I know way too many people that eat beef like no tomorrow, scoffing at the notion that the cow is sacred in Hinduism, but then turn around and balk at the idea of some "savage" eating dog meat. Dogs are no more intelligent/sentient/etc. than cows, and other "companion" animals are routinely eaten as well (plenty of people have pet pigs, for instance) so that doesn't really hold water either.

Especially considering that in areas where dogs are eaten, they get bred and kept like any other normal livestock, so it's not exactly the same as snatching the neighbours' beloved family pooch to cook it up.

I live in one of those infamous dog-eating countries, and in fact dog-snatching is on the rise, especially in rural areas. The animals stolen are kept as pets, so there is a great deal of hatred for dog snatchers, to the point where several incidents have occurred where the thiefs were beaten to within an inch of their lives by literal mobs of angry villagers.

idk about cows but pigs are definitely as smart as dogs.

Obviously most difference in which animals it's considered ok to eat is cultural, but I will stick to my discomfort with eating dogs/cats/horses even while recognizing it's a cultural difference. And yeah it makes me uncomfortable to think of dogs being eaten in other places, even if others don't feel that way. :/ I guess I just feel strongly about this thing that I know is culturally ingrained.
