I think what they may be suggesting is something like, if the amount of money people made was adjusted so you could live off of it, and instead of people working 10 hour shifts, you'd have two people working 5 hour shifts. Thus, the baseline of productivity necessary to keep things running is maintained, more people can work, and everybody makes enough money to live.

Of course, making this actually work irl....

So basically looking at the amount of work that exists and dividing it equally among everyone?

Well, I mean, when that was called Communism it didn't work particularly well.
But I agree that today we're looking at a situation where we have quite a bit of surplus, but we're still stuck in the idea that people have to work really hard just to make a living, and at the same time, throw a lot of stuff away. This system is not very good. People should not be starving when food is being left to rot because it's not "worth selling".
