I agree it was stupid, but Stark was pretty clear to Parker that he should stay out of the fighting and just control the field with his webbing - which was extremely useful all on its own. And I think his guilt when the kid got hurt anyway was part of his mess at the end.

It was nice of him to tell Peter to stay out of fighting. Would have been nicer had he not brought a teenager in the first place.
