Re: Man-splaining wank: The reboot.

The thing is, mansplaining doesn't refer to a thing that All Men Do Because They're Men, it's a thing that sooooome men do and it means they think their opinion is more VALID than yours because they're men

The word mansplaining isn't shaming men simply for being men, because no one would argue that every man does this. It's shaming the ones who do it, for thinking their manliness makes them an expert on everything.

Because shaming people is always the best option.

Shaming men is the only option that works.

Oh yeah, it really works. Those sexist men are all going to see the error of their ways and stop being sexist. They will by no means write you off as a man-hating shrew.

Idiot.

True. If only one woman tells a man he's being scum, he'll ignore them.
When a group of women tell a man he's being scum, he forms his boys club mra shit show. When everyone in society, the women, the PoC, the LGBT group, when everyone tells him he's wrong, he has to listen. He may pretend not to be affected by it, but that's not the way human being are. she shame will eat him away until he either folds or dies. And if he never folds, guess what? He's son will grow up seeing what he was and what it did to him. His son will grow up hating him and seeing him end his life for stupid sexist reasons. he dies and his son grows up to be with us.

Holy fuck.

Welcome to the reason that I no longer identify as a feminist. This is what the face of the movement is now.

Before anyone comes at me about "you can't judge a whole movement by its worst members", get back to me about your opinions on bronies, the Sherlock fandom, or even MRAs. Sometimes when the minority screeching gets loud enough, you have to excise yourself from it.

I would say that it has less to do with the worse members, and more to do with the median member. And this isn't my perception of the median feminists - but if it's yours, I can certainly understand your reticence.

I am right there with you, sister. The dismissiveness towards men, the perpetual victimhood, the sex negativity, the ridiculous obsession with tits and ass in media, the abuse women heap on each other in the name of it... I'm done. Fuck feminism.

Re: Man-splaining wank: The reboot.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-29 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
DA, but for real, the sex negativity is crazy and baffling. It's some Junior Anti-Sex League shit. And apparently having any women be anything other than 100% covered from head to toe (and it better not be tight at all) immediately makes them into brainless "sex objects" that exist only for the awful awful men's pleasure or something.

idk, the pendulum's WAY too far over right now, I'm looking forward to when it swings back again.

You have a lot of confidence believing that "everyone" (women, PoC, LGBT+ groups - a good chunk of the latter two also including men) is going to stand up with you and call that one man scum. I don't know if it's stupidity or naiveté doing the talking here.

If "everyone" stood up against you and told you you were being scum right here, would that shame you into non-existence too?

Re: Man-splaining wank: The reboot.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-30 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
No one said it's always the best option. What they're saying is that sometimes it is, because some behavior is so shameful that it deserves to be called shameful. And not necessarily because they imagine that shaming will correct the person who's behaving badly. Sometimes it's important to show other people who might be thinking of behaving the same way that what they're contemplating is contemptible.
