1.) If there's no fandom in heaven I will be seriously displeased.

44.) I've found the best way to handle things like that is to just view them as entirely different entities. It's much less frustrating. Practical Magic was SO different that I could have been very angry. Instead, I just think of the book and movie as totally separate. Everything's easier to enjoy that way.

Hallelujah! Really, the thought of not being able to follow my fandom or my OTP or the actors or anything... GAH. o__o

also, am amused my secret was NUMBER ONE, holy crap.

I'd be okay with the whole 'seperate entities' thing if people didn't keep trying to tell me that they "don't need to read the book because they saw the movie and it's practically the same thing".

It was a very good movie, in its own right, but he changed so much shit that I had to tilt my head and squint to recognize parts of it.

Isn't that exactly the opposite of what you said in your secret?

I do agree with you that I wish more people would read the book. But not because the movie was bad, just because I think the book is amazing.

I think the two are so different I can't even really compare them, though. It's as though Miyazaki took the first few chapters of the book and then created his own story with the characters from that point forward. But I don't see that as a bad thing at all. :X

But that's just my opinion, anyway.

I was disappointed in the movie because I wanted a film adaptation of that book so badly - and got something unrecognizable instead. :\

Yeah, I would still love to see a literal film adaptation of the book as well. :/ But even so, I still like Miyazaki's film. Maybe that just makes me a giant weeaboo.

I just think that it's hard to judge them both on the same levels. Obviously, if the book and the movie were written by the same person, I could see tremendous disappointment happening.

Looking back at Hayao Miyazaki's usual motifs, I seriously doubt that he would have kept much of the canon the same. It's just not his style :/
And Miyazaki's isn't Jones either.
