If you're cutting someone out just to make a point that you disapprove of them, you're being a passive-aggressive jerk. I'm taking the phrase "cut someone off" to mean "choose not to interact with them or maintain a relationship with them" which literally means...just what it says. You don't have to tell them why.

Since when does judging require that you tell the person? Labeling someone "toxic" is judging them, whether you keep that judgment under your hat or broadcast it to the world.

This is a thread about "cutting people out of your life instead of forgiving them," and the justification that's repeatedly used for doing so is that they're "toxic," so at least for the purposes of this thread, cutting people off and labeling them toxic seem to go hand in hand.

And no, "toxic" is the best capsule descriptor of some people's patterns of behavior, but if you do call someone toxic, you shouldn't pretend that you aren't judging the fuck out of them.

I see a lot of people around here acting like it is, but we form judgments all the time; it's what people do. I don't think it's inherently wrong. But if you want to judge other people, you shouldn't get indignant when others judge you. And you shouldn't pretend that it's not what you're doing.
