OP, were you actually expecting people on this comm to not go full-on batshit crazy Puritanical over a song? Look at the stupid excuses they're giving in this thread. "But it's different! These attitudes are prevalent in real life! Rape is different from murder! The songwriters and performers don't understand how problematic they're being! Or they don't care! This is a very special case that is especially BAD AND WRONG because reasons!"

You know, I read an article this week about The Marshall Mathers LP, and how revolutionary it was at that time, how it was a triumph of free speech that would cause mass hysteria today. And it pointed out that when it was released, Dick Cheney's wife tried to get age restricions put on it because she thought it was so bad. DICK CHENEY'S WIFE. Think about this, regressive left. This is what you have become when you rant about evil media. God, it's like the whole world is upside down.

the most batshit comment in this thread is you with your hyperbole.

IDGAF

seriously the only one freaking out here is you

man i really don't get people getting so bafflingly defensive over such a shit pop song. if it was good music at least, but blurred lines is a really mediocre hill to die on

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Get with the program. It has nothing to do with the song. IDGAF about Blurred Lines either way. I know you don't get this, but it's the principle. I do not understand why the left is moralizing about music the way the right always has.

"But it's different! These attitudes are prevalent in real life! Rape is different from murder! The songwriters and performers don't understand how problematic they're being!"

All of this is true. Explain how it is stupid.

... Are you really implying that rape is worse than murder?

Please tell me I'm misinterpreting what you're saying.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
DA
I totally think you are misinterpreting. The anon said "rape is different from murder" not worse. And it is. Most everyone agrees murder is wrong. Not everyone agrees all kinds of rape are wrong; it often depends on how it is presented. Just think about the countless excuses of "Look at what she is wearing! She was totally asking for it!" or "He got an erection, so it can't be rape!"

different =/= worse?

don't sprain your ankle from that leap of logic

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Explain how it is stupid.

BECAUSE IT'S A FUCKING SONG.

I don't understand your example - there's been huge discussion of whether Eminem's lyrics are harmful from all sides of the political spectrum for *decades*.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I had never seen a liberal debate the "harm" of entertainment media until this decade. Elvis's hips, violent video games, Marilyn Manson - I thought it was always the right doing all the pearl-clutching. Maybe because I didn't want to believe the left was so fucking stupid that they believed people couldn't differentiate between entertainment and reality. But hey, maybe people CAN'T make that distinction. It sure seems to be an issue for many people on this community.

Nothing can be disconnected from reality. Entertainment is made and consumed by real people.
