Are beatniks venomous?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Or does it even matter since they're all extinct?

Side question: how closely are they related to the present day hipster and what adaptations of theirs are detrimental in today's climate?

Beatniks and hipsters are both fine, actually. Sometimes they are bad but mostly they're just people. There's nothing detrimental about them and the weird sort of holier-than-thou attitude that this kind of post exemplifies is at least as dumb as anything that annoys you about hipsters.

What! How very dare you come in here with logic and insight!

I'm more partial to the hippie, honestly.

I mean, hippie-ism isn't a lifestyle I would choose, but I can get down with occasionally going into the woods and getting real high and all that kind of thing, you know?

Are you just stringing together words with no concern for their context?

According to animal control, no. I called them in a panic once when one bit me (my fault; I was out in a known beatnik habitat and not paying enough attention to my surroundings and I startled it), and they said to keep the wound clean and keep a close watch for infection, but that otherwise I shouldn't worry. Hurt like hell for a couple weeks, but I didn't suffer any permanent damage and you can barely even see the scar.

Woah, woah, woah. Animal Control didn't have you go in for rabies shots? While beatniks carry rabies at lower rates than other LBSCGs, Animal Control should have at least made at attempt to locate the beatnik.

This was years ago, back before they disproved that study that had people thinking beatniks were immune to rabies. Obviously in retrospect I was lucky, but they were working off the knowledge they had at the time.

I'm really glad you were so lucky! Of course, a biting startled beatnik is less likely to be rabid than if it had attacked you unprovoked. Good think you were not in a punk habitat. They are rampant with rabies!
