Re: Lewd Thread

I think it's kind of creepy that something which is, in most cases, basically a result of infant genital mutilation gets regarded as normal and the "preferred" version by a lot of people.

Re: Lewd Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It's normal for Jewish and Muslim people, indigenous nations in Australia and the African continent, and in the United States because American people were gullible as fuck in the 1800s and thought it stopped boys from masturbating. So, a lot of people indeed, but not the majority, fortunately.

I think Western Europe and the Asian continent are still mostly safe, don't know about the other continents.

Re: Lewd Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it gets regarded because a lot of people have been circumcised and have to, you know, live with it.

Do you think it would be less creepy if circumcised men went around constantly freaking out about how terrible it was and how much worse it makes them?

Re: Lewd Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
It shouldn't be regarded as normal. It should be looked down upon like similar infant/child mutilations like FGM and foot binding. That doesn't mean you say the mutilation makes the victims worse, you say mutilation is bad and should not be normalized.

Re: Lewd Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
What's normal and what's right are different arguments. People see it as normal because that's what the majority of penises in their culture look like. If we all mutually agreed to never circumcise another child, we'd all still be freaked the fuck out whenever we saw an uncut penis, because that's not "normal" as far as we've come to understand the word.

Now, what's right... circumcision, ear piercing, assigning a gender to a child before they've had a chance to figure out their own... basically nothing is "right" anymore.

Re: Lewd Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, we'd be freaked out by it for like...a year. Then it would become the status quo. Or do you think that two generations after the Great Circumcision Banning, people in the US would still look at an uncut penis and go, "Gross".

Re: Lewd Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
COnsidering how many people have a problem with women, Muslims, Jews, transpeople, blacks, Mexicans, etc... yes, I think people will. Because largely, humans are assholes.

DA

I can't tell if you're trolling or just this stupid. I suspect the former.

Re: Lewd Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not trolling or stupid. The fact that you think banning circumcision will magically result in people going against their natures and not shunning people who are different from them suggests you might be.

Re: Lewd Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, see, they would have to KNOW in order to SHUN, and I just don't see people walking around with their dicks out, you feel me? Which is why I thought you were trolling or stupid.

Okay, troll. Okay.

Re: Lewd Thread

DA

Sorry, but I don't think cutting away at a baby's genitals is in any way shape or form comparable to "assigning a gender" - particularly since nobody gets assigned a gender (unless they're intersex), the physical sex gets registered, that's all.

Re: Lewd Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends on who you ask. Some people have made the argument that it's barbaric to tell a child he/she is a boy/girl just because they have a penis/vagina.

Re: Lewd Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Funny thing. When the child becomes an adult, they can decide on their own. as opposed to the inability to bring back mutilated body parts.

Re: Lewd Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Again, depends on who you ask.

Yeah, a few gender-specials who will grow out of their self-imposed trans-fetish craze in a few years.

Re: Lewd Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It's definitely less barbaric than cutting/stitching up a child's penis/vagina, but then again, the people who think it's barbaric to note a child's biological sex are usually the ones who are a bit too obsessed with gender stereotyping, so I wouldn't expect a lot of logic.

Re: Lewd Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That was my original point, there's a difference between normal and right, because humans normalize all kinds of things that aren't right, and evryone has a different view of what is right.

Re: Lewd Thread

No, I just don't think infant genital mutilation should be so glorified and accepted and that there should be more efforts to stop it.
I wouldn't want any victim of a non-consensual, unnecessary and potentially dangerous procedure feel bad about it. I also don't mind people choosing to get it done on their own terms at an age where it's appropriate. So being circumcised is not something that would just vanish.
But the way a lot of people go "ew, uncut penis, gross" is an unhealthy reaction based in an unhealthy practise.

Re: Lewd Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
And my point, I guess, is that I think that's an intensely hard line to walk. Although of course I agree that viewing uncut penises as weird is also not a healthy attitude.

Re: Lewd Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
How is it a hard line to walk? Do you think it's a good thing, cutting up infants' genitals?

Re: Lewd Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-05 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's a hard line to walk to condemn the process without shaming people who've undergone it.

Re: Lewd Thread

[personal profile] diet_poison 2016-06-05 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I don't, at all. It's actually not difficult to just treat all people the same regardless of what their dick looks like. It's not anyone's fault if they were cut as a baby. And it's something that should be between yourself and your partner(s) anyway, not necessarily on public display.

By this logic should we stop condemning rape because people victim-shame? No, we actively fight against victim-shaming while condemning rape because the whole point is it is not the victims' fault. And if you don't know how to make that distinction I don't know what to tell you.
