Most Annoying Adaptation Mischaracterizations
(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)What are some instance of this which annoy you most?
(Note, it only says what personally annoys *you* most, not what you think is the most extreme or nonsensical mischaracterization.)

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)I think the most annoying part is that it's not a matter of "Ugh, I liked them better in the book but I see why the filmmakers thought this sort of characterization would be more exciting/screenworthy" that happens in most instances where a film adaptation screws up a character. For example Elrond. Yeah the film screwed him up, but I GET it - they wanted the narrative of the disapproving father and skeptical superior-species-member to set off the other things going on in the movie - and so I don't mind it much.
But Legolas and Gimli? No, they were approximately 300X more interesting and fun and "screeworthy" in the books and so I just don't get why they were so lame in the movies.

Re: Most Annoying Adaptation Mischaracterizations
(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)Hermione moreso than Ron actually. They may have shit all over Ron in the movies, but at least they allowed him to have a personality. Poor Hermione had all her personality stripped from her in order to make her nothing but flawless and awesome.

Re: Most Annoying Adaptation Mischaracterizations
Where OUaT fails: All of your favorite Disney characters are actually assholes.
Specifically, Ariel. I never managed to watch any of the show after her first appearance, but Ariel's first appearance was a big disappointment to me. I really liked the casting of Joanna Garcia in the role, but her sticking that bracelet on Snow's wrist without any prior conversation or consent about it was such a dick move.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-05 12:50 am (UTC)(link)[I was half tempted to say Backdraft in a recursive sense - "No, Bull was an asshole. Please, for the love of God, probie, don't imitate him!"]

(Anonymous) 2016-06-05 04:21 am (UTC)(link)The comics made a point of giving him a monologue where he reflects on how fascism was the only way he saw for England to survive, and he didn't allow himself any other luxury that the rest of the people didn't get. It's a tiny throw-away kind of detail in the movie, but it completely flattened him into stereotypical Hypocritical Villain.
