Of course, I would hold off on getting too excited. This movie has been in developmental hell for years.

If it's true, then yaaaaay. But since the last thing I heard about PR 2 was that it wasn't going to happen ever I am not getting my hopes up.

I heard he might be playing Idris Elba's son which is a bit weird considering how that character was a father figure to Mako and never actually indicated he had any other children?

This was my first thought as well. Pacific Rim always had a fairly big extended universe that included information about the characters' families, and there's nothing about Stacker having a son. It'll only work if he's an enstranged son who was already gone before Stacker found Mako.

It could possibly be like Creed, where John Boyega's character spent a good chunk of his life not knowing that Idris Elba's character was his dad. IDK...

Yay!!! If this happens I'm all for it!

Last I heard, there was an approval for a script but that just means that the studio is interested enough to read a script when it arrives. But who knows if they will OK a sequel. I really hope they do!!

I just hope they have a reeeeeally good explanation for why we've never, ever heard about a biological son of Stacker's, because Missing Black Father is moving rapidly into Yikes territory and I really don't want his character to be retroactively sullied like that.
