Tumblr Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-06-07 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
It's super irritating when you're a fan content creator on tumblr and all your content only gets likes and hardly any reblogs. A bunch of likes, sure, but reblogs are few and far between.

Idk, I take likes as "it's ok but not good enough to show my friends." What did I do wrong? Why don't you like it enough to reblog it? I want to make more content for you, fellow fans, but it's really hard with under 100 followers (and bad self-esteem).

It feels like Christmas when a really popular blog reblogs something of mine and I get like 5x the amount of notes I would have normally gotten without their help.

lol, OP and every other artist on the planet. It's not going to solve the reblog problem. It could be a matter of etiquette--some people I've seen frown upon reblogging fan content for various reasons.

I think OP just needs to be clear about their expectations, or say "feel free to reblog my work!" Or post their fanwork on other sites in addition to tumblr. Don't make tumblr the sole or even main channel for posting stuff.

Maybe because some people simply follow some fandom tumblrs, but their own tumblrs are non-fandom. At least that's true for me. I sometimes like something fannish, but my own tumblr is strictly pretty pictures of landscapes etc. so I'm not going to reblog any fan content, no matter how good it may be.

Reblogging isn't just sharing, though, it's changing the reblogger's own blog. (one thing I hate about tumblr, tbh.) I think people like to stop themselves from sharing every single thing they like on their blog because it'd get extremely cluttered.
