Feels like I do that a lot. Like, at least half the time.

I think it's because major characters might not be consistently written well (if they're from a TV show with multiple writers, for example) or can often be too generic. Minor characters' appearances are usually brief enough not to seem inconsistent and they may have more unique personality types, and so they'd usually be the first I look up fic for because I'm genuinely interested in seeing more.

Also been in fandoms where I actually do really like the main character(s), but the fan community is small enough that they might as well be extremely obscure.
