Allergies

[personal profile] philstar22 2016-06-08 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Are there things to do for allergies that won't make me so sleepy? There is so much mold in the air right now here in Texas, and it is killing me. But my regular anti-histimine isn't cutting it. And if I take benadryl, then all I want to do is nap. But Benadryl is the only thing that seems to help the headaches.

As a fellow Texan, I feel you on the molds! They have been so terrible. What antihistimine do you take? I find cetirizine (zyrtec) helpful if I take it once or twice a day. Also generally cleaning and vacuuming regularly helps some, at least for getting some allergens out of the house.

Another allergic Texan popping in! I've been using a generic Claritin-type antihistamine that's been pretty good to me.

You need what are known as second generation antihisthamines. They're not quite as effective as first generation (like Benadryl) but the side effects are less severe.

I take the Dollar General brand 24 hour allergy meds. Benadryl, like you, makes me a zombie and i can't take it. The DG stuff works great and no nodding off.
