Re: TW Rape

I think this insisting on how damaged the victim is is harmful to victims because her very own account shows how a lot of the victimization only happens later and how you can only be taken seriously if you suffer, and do so as publicly as possible or you're either lying or "it couldn't have been so bad". I wish people stopped buying into these narratives and only judge the actual crime. People are traumatized by accidents, too.

Also, the disgusting behavior by the criminal and his family during and after the trial and the crime are two separate things, and that should be kept in mind. Like she says in her letter, she thought, had hoped, that he would settle. That would not have reversed the crime but could have helped her to put it behind her. What makes this case a scandal is how she was attacked and victimized again during the trial.

I mean I was basing my assessment of this off the statement issued by the victim? I don't think she's going to be ~victimized forever~, but the harm he did to her was real and extends beyond the rape itself. I think it's disrespectful to downplay that; that feels like playing into the narrative of the attacker who still doesn't admit he did anything wrong.

Not sure where you are going with "you can only be taken seriously if you suffer"? (She still wasn't taken seriously by the judge or the perpetrator's family, and the only reason she's taken seriously by the internet is her story went viral)

And if you cause an accident out of negligence you can still go to jail for that.
