Re: Vent thread
Also wish my mother was in better health, but at this point I don't believe that's going to change.
Oh, and space. I miss having space and lots of privacy.
Re: Vent thread
And as always hugs and love to you over everything bb. ♥
Re: Vent thread
Having insurance is a good thing, but damn if it isn't a slow and incredibly frustrating process... I want to be through with it.
Construction had began, but it's stalled right now because we haven't received the money.
Re: Vent thread
I just hope you can get enough of your house fixed.
Re: Vent thread
Maybe things will work out. I have to keep telling myself that.
Re: Vent thread
Man I feel so super out of the loop.

Thanks, though!

Re: Vent thread
Hopefully.
Re: Vent thread
Well, you know where to come if you need to vent! xD
Re: Vent thread
Uh, it might work out eventually, but I admit I am a bit impatient. Three months is a long time to be out of your home. (At least it is to me.)
Haha, yes I do! I appreciate it. :)

Re: Vent thread
From my own post-fire experience: Insurance companies will do everything they can to not pay for things, unfortunately. It's how they keep their profits. Make sure you know your policy and entitlements and what the maximum time frames should be. Keep calling and asking for updates. Every single day if you have to.
If they aren't holding up their end of the deal, get copies of all your communication with them and your policy and send it straight to the ombudsmen (or equivalent body in your state I guess?).
I hope it gets sorted out for you soon and there are no more delays.
Re: Vent thread
I really wish I've been keeping records of all the phone calls I've made. I've made so fucking many (just to insurance, not to mention contractors and such), but it never crossed my mind that I should have that shit written down. I'm new to all of this, and an idiot to boot.
Thankfully I know what our deadline was and got everything in by that date, but even though I upheld my end of the bargain (and the adjuster did as well), the insurance pushed the deadline back again. I'm sure they won't want to pay, so I just hope this doesn't end badly.
Having no experience with fires, I can only say that I'm awfully sorry you had to deal with that and I totally understand the destruction and pain that can occur when such an event happens to you. No one should have to go through insurance hell, but I'm glad you got out in one piece.
Re: Vent thread
You're doing good! If you know what you're entitled to from them and when that should happen, even if they give you problems you have an advantage because you can start making complaints (keep copies of those too!) and reporting them to outside authorities right away. They rely on people being complacent when they want to delay something or argue that they're not required to do something.
Things were a bit different for me because the insurance company didn't want to deal with me directly. I was still in high school and the only other person on the policy was a sort of family member who didn't want to share any money with me so we only had contact for some of the time. So yeah. Insurance really didn't get me out of that mess. About 2 years after the fire I got enough money to buy a mattress and some new work shoes because the ombudsmen's office threatened the insurance company. At the time I was still without a permanent address.
I'm sure your experience will be different though. I hope things get moving in a good direction soon and you start to see some results.
Re: Vent thread
Haha, well... We'll see.
It is very difficult to keep track of things, and I say this as someone who likes keeping things in a certain order; I've been misplacing shit left and right. Being out of your element really shifts your worldview, which probably only makes the whole experience that much easier for insurance to wiggle out of.
If I could turn back time, I would have immaculate records! As is, I'll just have to be a pain in the ass, and maybe that will get me somewhere.
:/ But I'm sorry that you couldn't even deal with insurance directly; that would be a thousand times worse then having to deal with them. At least I have some control over the situation; in your place you had to rely on others to help you, and they didn't do their job. I'm glad it sounds like you're in a better place now, but man. Grrr.
Hopefully nothing like that will ever happen to either of us again. (But just in case, it's a learning experience.)
Thanks again! ♥
