I agree. I mean, you're probably talking about people like me, but I agree anyway.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-09 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I want OP to clarify what "weird shit" they're talking about. I can't tell if I'm a privileged shitlord or not.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-06-09 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're a weird shit negative dicklord then I'm on the wrong side of history because clearly you are one of the broest bros around this place.

Where the fuck have you been that you think F!S being "salty and angry" is a new phenomenon? I've been coming here since 2009 and it's ALWAYS been salty and angry.

I think the difference you're seeing is we have more channers than we used to. They bring their own breed of toxic hostility (and it'd explain the "everything is SJW" stuff too.)

(Anonymous) 2016-06-09 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Long time fandomer here. I've never been on 4chan in my life, and I detest PC culture and social justice bullshit and all the pearl-clutching and virtue-signalling in this comm.

But you keep telling yourself it's all channers and Gamergaters and MRAs and sexist pigs if it makes you feel better.

I'm just here to say that the stock image looks wrong. If you hold your hand at that angle when punching something, not only with the impact be more on your fingers than on your knuckles, but you might be able to damage your wrist. I know that I was always taught to punch straight - I'm not sure why her hand is turned up after that blow. It lessens the feel of power, because it breaks the line of impact.

Hey, every community is going to have people you dislike. Personally I do like its still one of those multi-fandom places where discussion still exists.

I just try to focus on the good side of this place.

And, this is random, but the sjw part reminded me that earlier today it really sank in that a friend of mine hangs out in vastly different places on the internet than me when he said "Did you notice this new trend on the internet lately of labeling people who defend gay people or women, SJWs. Social justice warriors. In a mocking way"

I mean... no one comments on the positive threads. Or if they do, no one converses in them.

I agree in principle, I do, but until people respond to the positive stuff or to the stuff that's not entirely negative...

So here you are, making a salty, pissy secret instead of doing something positive. Because that totally solves negativity, right?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-09 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
the trolls are getting overbearing at this point.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-09 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
This place has issues, but it's still a vastly more rational, intelligent, positive, and friendly place than many corners of the internet.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-09 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
i agree with you.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-09 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I figure the salty bitterness is just what comes with the territory of an anon community. Those feelings still exist elsewhere, but it's way easier to voice them when you have no repercussions.

That said I've been trying to pull back. Not a productive use of my time and not a lot of overlapping interests.

Yet here am I 6 o' clock on the dot. A five year habit's one hell of a drug.

I don't think this place is perfect by any means but I still enjoying hanging out here, I just take the bad with the good.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-09 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel you, anon. I stopped going to F!S sometime in 2011, checked it recently out of curiosity, and was really surprised by how much of a change there was! Maybe it's just because there are more anon users, or maybe it's just that fandom has moved to other websites, but the F!S of 2016 seems a lot toothier than what it used to be. At least, I don't remember many threads back then that spiraled out into never-ending variations of "get fucked with a chainsaw" and "no you" back then.

But maybe I was just following the wrong threads!

The community definitely has its issues (and I haven't been around much in the last few months or so, so it's totally possible things have recently gotten worse), but I don't think it's even close to the worse place on the net. There are assholes, but assholes are everywhere, and I think we have enough nice users and anons to balance it out.

Don't get me wrong, we get more wank and more cruel comments then I would like, but I still feel like things could be far worse and I appreciate the good in this place. (Good discussion, good people, etc.)

Guess it depends on where exactly you hang out, though. You say you hang around reddit and tumblr, but various corners are better or worse than others.

Actually what I've noticed from being an observer and then being a poster is there is more people willing to question the belief that everything wrong in fandom and beyond is the result of some type of -ist behavior.

And when they feel someone is reaching, they say so.

In short, it's not the hivemind it was before the move from LJ.

Okay, but how do you compare it to ONTD, OP?

I don't see it as any different than it's always been, and I've been here (mostly lurking) a long time.

(no subject)

[personal profile] morieris - 2016-06-10 04:43 (UTC) - Expand

I sort of agree

(Anonymous) 2016-06-10 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
But I don't think it's half. I think there are a few really angry anons, a few trolls, and a few named users who have their buttons pushed a little more easily than they used to. I also think the wank and the angry threads tend to stick out more in memory than most of the benign ones. But it does seem like, more recently, some people here are just much quicker to anger at some things.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-10 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
But honestly, this place isn't nearly as bad as Tumblr.

I mean...some people being shitlords and some people being nice is pretty much the way it goes everywhere, right? I don't remember a time with *no* shitlords...
