It's pretty fucking obvious I don't think that. Forgive me for holding the man who pulled the trigger responsible for the dead, and not his ex-wife, his father, his potential ~radicalization, his religion, etc.

But yes, whilst ultimately he's the one who actually carried out the attack, people are products of their environment. Understanding that is key in prevent similar incidents.

I don't know how morally bankrupt you can be to believe this, but yes when you know someones going to commit a mass killing you have an ethical, and generally legal duty to stop that.

Can't believe you're actually arguing something so horrific to be honest.

This is an inflammatory issue and it's very to get drawn to one side or the other, but accusing someone else of being "morally bankrupt" for acknowledging that ethical questions are complicated is not only grossly naive, but...naively gross, frankly. Cut out the ad hominem attacks and please be civil.

I mean I'm all for the idea she may not have known. But if she was fully aware, it's all pretty simple as much as it is tragic.

YES IT WAS. Seriously. You have a LEGAL AND ETHICAL obligation to inform the authorities of these things. It was ABSOLUTELY her responsibility and it is horrifying to suggest otherwise.

Plenty of other ways to read that post, my man, like the way it was written: "we don't know all the information, and this makes it complicated." Sparrow said nothing about ~~~completely exonerating her or removing any association with the crime; she just acknowledged a very real tricky area here. If you aren't willing to see that this isn't a black-and-white question, you are the asshole.

He's responsible for the killing.

She's responsible for driving him to the club so he could plan the killing, being along for the ride while he bought the ammo, and keeping all of that under her hat until the shooting was over.

She's not responsible for driving him around if she did it on pain of death or horrifying abuse especially wrt her child.

I'd argue that she is responsible for notifying the police once she was alone (if that is in fact how it played out).

But obviously the shooter was pretty confident that she wouldn't in the TWO HOURS she was apparently alone, so he must have said something pretty bad. Threatening the life of one's child can do a lot to keep one quiet. On a legal level, yes, she should have called the cops. On an emotional level, it's hard to blame her.

But sorry that was a tangent - in response to your statement I am disagreeing that she was responsible for driving him around if she was coerced into doing it.

IDK, if she was so frightened that she didn't call the police after he had left her alone, would she really have been arguing with him all the while he bought the ammunition and planned the shooting? Complying under immediate threat to your life and your child's life is one thing; once she was alone, I think the threats are a mitigating circumstance but that she's not absolved of responsibility for the things she did do.

Because he might have threatened to harm her or her child if she told? She didn't know he was going to be killed that night.

I would have said that if she called the police and got him arrested, the threat would be over, but on reflection, I can well imagine him telling her that if she got him arrested, his comrades would make her pay.

That could also be a factor.

But of course even if he threatened to go back himself and hurt her if she reported him...that can be very powerful. Very.
