Violence against women is already glorified in our society, anything that feeds into that "Look a woman is being hurt! YAY!" mindset needs to be called out

lolwut

(Anonymous) 2016-06-15 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
What's so trolly about this?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-15 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't engage with this person. They're deeply trolly too.

They are not a new troll. This has been going on for a while.

So you guys are saying violence against women isn't an issue in society? (This isn't the original so called 'troll' by the way).
Just because someone writes something that makes you uncomfortable doesn't make them a 'troll' automatically.

Not at all. It's definitely an issue in society and it's definitely possible to disagree with someone without being a troll.

But there has been a lot of wank about this particular, really specific topic lately (women in media, esp. movies/live action TV, being on the receiving end of violence, usually as part of a superhero story plot) and one particular person saying, loudly, that this is completely unforgivable and ignoring all the nuance involved. It's gotten really tiresome. Personally I find their stance to actually be pretty sexist (it perpetuates the "women are all weak porcelain vases" idea) and anti-creativity (there are right ways and wrong ways to portray a Bad Thing in the media and it shouldn't be stopped altogether).

Oh, great, a semi-trolly comment that is going to get a huge thread of responses. *eyeroll*

Pls ignore it, people.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-15 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
but you weren't supposed to say yay. he's pretty obviously a bad guy and his violence against women (and anyone else) is far from condoned...which is why he gets his ass kicked. what would you prefer the female characters do? sit on the sidelines so male characters can never hurt them and let the boys fight them instead? only fight other female characters? that's way more sexist

(Anonymous) 2016-06-15 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Please don't respond to the trolls.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-15 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Not who you replied to, but in virtually any superhero movie starring a dude, the dude gets to look badass on billboards. Like maybe a little scraped up, but badass. I would expect that a film starring Mystique would advertise itself with Mystique looking badass, too.

People are saying this is a troll comment, but it makes sense to me. Male fans think that female characters deserve to have bad stuff happen to them just for being annoying or not letting the male heroes (as they are, typically) get their way. And if it just so happens that the method of comeuppance is through a villain and done in a misogynistic manner, there are fans (both male and female) who will cheer without an ounce of self-awareness that they are on the villain's side.

Mystigue is super annoying though. I mean I don't want Jean to get hurt. She's one of the good ones! Smurfette needs to roughed up a little tho. See if that improves her attitude.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-16 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Awww I like Mystique. :(
She's not that bad...

(Anonymous) 2016-06-16 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
People think the same of all characters though. How is it different when it's a woman?
