Is there some reason his whiteness being significant in the books can't be changed to blackness being significant? Does this other character not like white people? That could easily be changed to the character not liking black people, and would be more realistic besides.

Sure, but then what would people complain about?

Right, cause Odetta will be basically the same if she's a white woman with issues about trusting black men.

Great point. I disagree with the casting also

I suspect the movie will fail, not because the casting or the writing of the adaptation is bad, but because THE ENTIRE FUCKING POINT OF THE SERIES is antithetical to fan values that there must be one and only one version of what the characters must be.

(Now granted, King's point may be a self-indulgent license to rationalize everything including derivative work under one multiverse, but that's something else. But a theory of fiction that puts The Ramones in the same multiverse as Roland can't be all bad.)

>character not liking black people, and would be more realistic besides

So we should always be stuck with the same tired old narratives and never escape the victim complex amirite. God, you guys are impossible.

Considering the character is a black female Civil Rights activist, it will be a bit hard. But we can just take the easy way out and just get rid of that black female character. Replace her with a white lady.

More realistic how?
