Re: Gaming Thread

I have a question. I used to play games way back when (mostly on computer) and I've recently been looking to get back into it. I'm thinking about buying a console and I'm leaning towards PS4 because the only games I know I want to play are anything Star Wars related and people have said Sony has an in with Disney.

However, I've also heard about the kerfuffle with Battlefront and how the main game was only okay but most of it was in the extra downloadable stuff, which people thought was a ripoff. I was considering getting the PS4 with the Battlefront bundle but I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not.

Also, can you download games to the PS4? Like, can you buy stuff on Steam and then play it on PS4 or is that only for stuff on the computer? What other games should I look into getting?

I'd really love to hear other people's opinions since I'm not entirely sure what I should be looking for when I consider getting a console.

You can't buy Steam games and then play them on PS4, no, but you can buy games from the Playstation marketplace and download those to the console.

I don't have a PS4, so I have no actual opinion either way on how they work, but depending on what kind of games you like, I may have suggestions.

Back in the day, I used to like King's Quest and Myst and other puzzle/adventure games. I liked Pokemon and Mario Brothers on Gameboy but the recent Mario Brothers I played made me dizzy/sick. I've played the ATLA movie game on the Wii and that was fun. I also liked Diablo 1 and 2. I'm open to trying new kinds of games. I like story/worldbuilding and characters mostly. I'm not a fan of having to fiddle with the game though (like downloading patches or expansions, etc.) and I'm not a fan of multi-player.

How are you on horror games? As much as I grouse about the state of the genre these days there's still plenty of good ones, not all of them big AAA affairs either (though those are good too.)

I watched a LP of a horror game and nearly freaked myself out. I don't think I'd be very good at those. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Diablo 3 has a PS4 version, since you liked the other two. I've got it for my Xbox 360, and I personally enjoy the hell out of it, though a lot of long-time Diablo fans are disappointed in it, so it's hit or miss. Get the Ultimate Evil edition if you get it, comes with the Reaper of Souls expansion already on the disk (or the 360 version does, unsure if that's a thing for every console release). Has multi-player, but I play it solo and the story is solid, plenty of fun to be had without other people.

Skyrim is getting a remaster for PS4 in the future, and it's a solid game. There's DLC for it, but all of it is optional, so unless you want the extra story or are an achievement whore like I am, you don't need to pick it up.

Final Fantasy X/X-2 were remastered and released for PS4, if you played either/both of those on Playstation 2 back in the day. The remaster includes all the International stuff (dark aeons, etc), so they'll give you a lot of play time to complete everything.

Dark Souls is good if you like to rage at things, but I'm not sure if the first two released for PS4 or are able to be played on it.

Just going through my Steam catalog and seeing what might interest you that also has Playstation releases, you might be interested in Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and The Witcher as well. Only the last Dragon Age and Witcher games have been released for PS4 though, and none of Mass Effect was until the new one comes out next year. I don't know if Playstation has a backwards compatibility system that includes the older ones though, sorry. :(

Buy a PS3. PS4 isn't worth getting yet IMO -- wait for a price drop at least. PS3 has a huge library, plus a large collection of PS1 and PS2 games that you can purchase on PSN. PS4 needs more time to build its library.

And no, you can't buy games on Steam and be able to play them on PS4 -- Steam is PC only. (However, if you buy the PS3 version of Portal 2 it comes with a Steam key and cross-platform play, but that's a major exception.)

I wouldn't buy a PS4 just yet unless there are any games you just have to play right this minute. Wait until the Neo/PS4.5 gets out (no release date yet though), as there will likely be a price drop for the regular one (Or you can get the Neo)
