Shockingly enough, there are quite a few people out there who are actually morally opposed to that kind of thing. Or are bothered by it because at least 86% of the time it's based on non-existent subtext that people pull out of their asses as an excuse to draw porn using the designs of other people's characters.

That's not to say that I'm always a bitch about this kind of thing, but there are quite a few times when it really makes no sense and it makes me go "God why." I'm all for porn for the sake of porn, but most of the time the justification for it is weak at best.

Why hello there page 4

Subtext is subjective. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean other people might not.

That's, you know, the difference between subtext and canon.

Re: 64.

[identity profile] leafing.livejournal.com 2008-03-27 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)

The problem is that everything is considered subtext in fandom. Everything.

These two people are good friends. Logically we can conclude that they want to have sex. These two people hate each other. No, wait, it's just sexual tension. These two people have never met before. But they would totally do each other on sight if they did.

Like I said. Porn? Fine. Making horribly contrived explanations for porn? Why.

Re: 64.

[identity profile] 1strangepirate.livejournal.com 2008-03-27 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
THEY HATE EACH OTHER AND ARE BOTH MALE THUS THEY HAVE HOT BUTTSEX ALL THE TIME IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE

for the record though, while i don't get off to 'slash' i'm not offended by it (unless it's shota)

sometimes subtext can be at least a little plausible, though, roz, you must admit

even though the thought of them doinking isn't my thing, phoenix and edgeworth por ejemplo are both pretty gay for each other

ADMIT IT

[identity profile] leafing.livejournal.com 2008-03-27 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
DON'T YOU HAVE SOME GHOSTBUSTER SEQUELS TO BE WATCHING

I'm not offended by it either, really. It just makes me go "Wait what" sometimes.

That's why I only specified at least 86% of the time, you see. I didn't say that it was all bullshit, just most of it.

Re: 64.

haha win

bonus points if they're not masculine in the slightest or are perhaps in a canon relationship with a female (IN DENIAL)

On an unrelated note, I don't think I've mentioned this before, but that icon is very A+++.

MADE OF WIN!!!

Oh, we should just make that a subsection of Rule 34.

Re: 64.

[identity profile] akai_senshi.livejournal.com 2008-03-28 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Umm...you'd better make that "two guys" or, sometimes, if we're really lucky, "a guy and a girl".

Those two chicks over there going down on each other? JUST FRIENDS!

Re: 64.

[personal profile] pikabot 2008-03-27 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
...and? How can you determine which interpretations are more valid than others? Who's the final arbitrator there? Who gets to make those decisions?

What seems obvious to you may or may not be obvious to someone with a different perspective.

I'm also curious as to why same-sex pirings are being singled out here. What you're describing is exactly as rampant in het pairings.

Re: 64.

[identity profile] 1strangepirate.livejournal.com 2008-03-27 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
sorry

but from my experience as an anime fan it isn't

rest assured i don't discriminate but i've come across far less ranting and fangirl slobbering gibberish over het pairings compared to the mounds of "subtext" found for yaoi ones

and not to accuse you, but slash/yaoi fangirls seem to be very defensive and love to claim homophobia towards any naysayers

i probably opened up a can of worms there that has been covered extensively here on the lovely f!s but again, that's just my experience

Reading comprehension.

This is why I've been referring to porn in general, not just slash. I'm not singling out anything, although it's not like I ever actually see het. I'm sure that it's running wild with just as many crackpot theories and such as any other type of fandom porn.

64 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-03-27 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
You...kind of missed the point of my secret. I never said that people who dislike slash are sexually repressed, or are not entitled to dislike it.

I was addressing the issue of fangirls who have things like anti-yaoi/yuri stamps, and anti-yaoi/yuri clubs, and go around everywhere screaming "ZOMG YAOI AND YURI ARE DISGUSTING GO DIE". "The lady doth protest too much", in other words.

Re: 64 OP

[identity profile] leafing.livejournal.com 2008-03-27 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, those. Like straight-edge kids with the goofy looking tattoos.

I got you.

Re: 64 OP

[identity profile] 1strangepirate.livejournal.com 2008-03-27 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
sorry, i took it as "if you don't get off to yuri/yaoi you're sexually repressed"

i mean i understand being suspicious of people who deny it constantly and at every opportunity, but that didn't really seem to be the emphasis of your secret

Re: 64 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-03-27 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps I worded it a bit badly. I apologize. I actually wrote that secret in response to all of the anti-yaoi/yuri stamps that I've been seeing on DevArt.

I mean...disliking it I can understand. Being actively 'anti' just seems a smidge too excessive to not make me suspicious.

Re: 64 OP

[identity profile] akai_senshi.livejournal.com 2008-03-28 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
But...I'd say a good half of those people are GLBT, and are kind of pissed that fandom throws their sexuality around like a dog's chew toy without really stopping to understand it or, as a matter of fact, most author's straight privilege.

The other half you have a point against, though.
