I know people say you can't let a fandom influence your view or perception of a series, and that was true back in the day of things like LiveJournal that allowed you to filter out and join social circles of like minded people. But that is becoming more and more impossible to do in this day and age of social media, especially "open office"-type environments like Twitter, Tumblr, and even Facebook. The Steven Universe fandom is probably the first major, post-MLP example of this.
