Re: T-Swizzle and T-Hiddles

He probably does, but he hasn't really been in anything big other than Thor/The Avengers in a looong time. I'd say he needs the publicity.

Exactly what people are wondering. He wants Bond so damn bad, but doesn't have a profile or steady PR outside the Loki thing.

Well my point is, fair play to him. That's reality for celebrities... you don't keep up your public stature, you might not be considered for roles.

If he wants another big project, being "caught" with The Swiffer isn't a terrible career decision.

The backlash is really bad though, and it's NOT just from fans.

Eh, so what? Worked for Britbrit.

I'd say that everyone will get over it, EXCEPT the fans. In the meantime, I'm enjoying the fan meltdown.

"the swiffer" lmao

that's one hell of an image you paint

lol but am I really wrong, though?

Oh, god, please don't let them make him the next Bond. I'd rather go back and watch Timothy Dalton's Bond. Which I hated. (I don't mind Hiddleston, but Bond he is not.)

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-06-16 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
See... I kind of agree with this but...

Was Pierce Brosnan really Bond (I don't buy for a second that he could do a single one of his own stunts)? Was Daniel Craig even really bond (isn't Bond supposed to be sophisticated and charming)?

I dunno man. I just dunno.

Re: T-Swizzle and T-Hiddles

(Anonymous) 2016-06-16 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure Brosnan did as many of his own stunts as Roger Moore did. And he was charming.

I liked Craig, he had his own sort of charm--and I liked him better than Dalton.

But then I'm a Connery Bond girl through and through, so.... But honestly, I'd rather Idris Elba, or as has been suggested on tumblr, Gillian Anderson. She's more Bond than Hiddleston.

IA with Anderson or Elba as the next bond. Either one of them is about a billion times more Bond to me than Hiddleston.

The Night Manager made a huge splash in the UK and it's probably going international as well.

Whatever you say man, I've barely even heard of it outside of movie blogs. That's not a great sign if you're looking for work in Hollywood.

Re: T-Swizzle and T-Hiddles

(Anonymous) 2016-06-16 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
That's probably because it was a TV miniseries for the BBC and not a movie. It got great reviews and was an action/espionage role where Hiddleston was the main character. Also, the woman who directed The Night Manager is shortlisted to direct the next Bond film:

https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/jun/01/james-bond-director-susanne-bier-night-manager

I'm not saying Hiddleston's a shoe-in, but I don't think his chances are all that hopeless. Look at Daniel Craig's film roles prior to Casino Royle, or Sean Connery's prior to Dr. No , they're not exactly overflowing with blockbusters. Darby O'Gill and the Little People, anyone?

And note: both Pierce Brosnan and Roger Moore's biggest pre-Bond roles were action/detective/espionage TV series.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-06-16 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm aware it's a miniseries. The movie blogs I read also cover other entertainment sometimes when it involves film stars... probably should have made that clear, so my bad.

And sure, it's not as though relative unknowns don't get castings (they definitely do) but at this point Hiddles is A-B list. The game has changed.

Re: T-Swizzle and T-Hiddles

(Anonymous) 2016-06-16 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think it's changed so much that he has zero chance. When it comes to big franchises like the Bond films, they don't want a big star, but they do want someone who can fill the basic requirements. Hiddleston's in a good area. He's not a total unknown, he's young and in good physical condition (VERY important as the action sequences get more elaborate), he's got the suave manners and charm thing down, he's properly British, he's just done a very well received series that's similar but not too similar to Bond, and his schedule is not yet so booked that he can't handle a multi-picture franchise. All significant factors in his favor. This is not to say he'll absolutely get it, but they'd be fools if they didn't consider him as a contender.

Tribeca promoted it pretty heavily (The director and Hiddles were there at a screening) and they had posters for it all over the subway and the show was good, but I don't know how it did ratings wise here in the US.

Lol, you're probably right. Still, he couldn't find a better way to get the media to look at him?

Well... who else would you get caught making out with if you were Hiddles and you needed a publicity boost?

Who else would even agree to it? Swiffy is just the kind of sociopathic industry powergamer to do something like this with.
