Because... the Donald (and the majority of people voting for him) just luuurve those homo-sexuals, right?

More than the left, apparently.

That's the funny thing, he doesn't actually give a shit. He's been sucking right wing cock a bit during this nightmare of a primary race, so he's said a few anti-gay things lately to please them, but it's super-clear that it's not his actual position on the matter.

Meanwhile tons of people on the far left are so desperate to protect the swathe of people most likely to actually murder us, I'm not at all shocked that opinions are being swayed over.

"Swathe of people?" All of them? As in all Muslims? And by "us" you mean LGBTIAQ people? You do realize these groups overlap some, right? And that there are gay Christians and that some Christians mean LGBTIAQ people harm, but neither religious group as a whole is out there shooting up nightclubs. It sounds like you just hate Muslims and are throwing in with Trump because he professes to hate them more than he hates you. I'm not sure he does hate Muslims or gay people, but he's certainly firing up a big group of voters that loathes both. (Also do you know any Muslims personally? The ones I know aren't fundamentalists and have as much in common with nightclub-shooter bastard as most of the Christians I know have with the WBC, that is, not much. Actually the first out bi girl I met in high school is Muslim.) Mostly people are just people who want to be safe and get on with their lives. Including Muslims.

DA

And there we have it, folks. The rousing refrain of "But Christians!"

It's just inconceivable to you regressives that a large number of people on the left could have a problem with BOTH Islam AND Christianity, isn't it? What world do you live in where you can't see that Islam preaches that homosexuality is immoral? What planet are you on that you can't see that this is a basic tenet of the religion? Have you ever read the Koran? Do you actually believe that all these Muslim homosexuals can be openly out in their communities? Because I don't see a lot of gay Christians wearing rainbow t-shirts to church.

Tell me, if there was a swathe of Christian conservatives wanting to get into this country, would you be happy about it?

I wouldn't really care if lots of conservative (are we talking, like, Mennonites, or born again evangelicals, or what?) Christians wanted to come to the US. We've got lots already. Even most of them are fairly insular and have no interest in shooting abortion clinics or bombing government buildings, and if the evangelicals come 'round my door I will shut it and pretend I'm not home.

People mostly just want to be safe and get by. Including Christian and Muslim people. I know a handful of gay Christians and a lot more who are pro gay rights (actually I know way more who are at the very least personally uncomfortable with abortion than I do ones who are anti-LGBT.) It sucks that extremists breed other extremists, though--the more you treat a big group of mostly normal people as monsters, the more you attack them for it, the higher the probability that some will start to act like it. Did you always hate Muslims?

I do not hate Muslims. I think that both Islam and Christianity are ideologically opposed to progressive values. The difference is that Muslim immigrants don't vote conservative, so they're viewed as allies despite holding basically the same religious views as conservative Christians. I can't help but think you would feel differently if they all came in voting Republican, no matter how much they otherwise kept to themselves.

the more you treat a big group of mostly normal people as monsters, the more you attack them for it, the higher the probability that some will start to act like it.

This is the basis of the left's defense of Islam, I think. You're afraid of what Muslims will do if you don't put them on the top of the victim hierarchy.

Weirdly enough, Trump seems to be positioning himself as someone who cares about hate crimes against gay people and wants to prevent them. It's not a role I expected him to take.
