Sadly, this seems to happen to most of the 'big' Tumblr fandoms. The Overwatch fandom has already managed to prove that it's a steaming bag of shit as well.

Last week someone went off telling people not to ship Hanzo and Genji and that they were contributing to RL incest, and mostly everyone just laughed at them so they deleted their post.

Man yeah, I was scouring the tags when I chanced upon that shitty "IF YOU SHIP THESE PAIRINGS YOU SHOULD DIE BECAUSE IT'S PROBLEMATIC AF" I mean holy fuck why.

TF2's shipping side was nowhere as bad as Overwatch's. What the hell happened.

Overwatch has a high amount of DILFs and possible lesbians. I'm not sure what you were expecting.

I was expecting the same userbase from TF2 because of the similar nature of the game, art style, and the amount of DILFs (the last one subjectively speaking as in how much you find the TF2 classes attractive).

But then again TF2 comes from fandom pre-2009 where everybody ships everyone, with cringey yaoi tropes running rampant, but also with the "YKINMK" motto still taking effect in fandom.
