Honestly, the two are not mutually exclusive.

I'm not a sexual abuse survivor, but I do use darkfic as a sort of cathartic thing for some other issues (a past suicide attempt being one of them), while I also just like fucked-up kink. And sometimes I want one and sometime the other, and it's not uncommon both are actually present in the same fic.

I think it's important to remember

a) other people's experiences are not yours

b) people do not owe you a justification for liking what the like either way.

This. Also not a sexual abuse survivor, but I do have PTSD and I do use darkfic as a coping mechanism. For me it isn't child/adult pairings, its torture and noncon of adults fics. But the general idea is the same. For some of us, reading these things helps. For me, its the on the one hand people going through much worse things than I ever did and on the other hand also healing and comfort afterwards. Both of these things help me mentally when I read them.

Agreed. It's fiction. What I read/write doesn't have to match with my life experiences.
