I actually love this song but when I hear the title I still get it confused with Livin La Vida Loca (which I also love, but, totally different songs in every way)

Love that song. Overall I interpret it as an ode to the transience of fame, fortune, love - and of life in general.

I really only listened to this song in the context of listening to the rest of the album, but it brings back fond memories for me.

Edit: whoops forgot interpretation.

I always saw this song, and the whole album to an extent, as a confrontation of mortality; an album about the knowledge that we will all die. Viva la Vida in particular is like a celebration of death as the great equalizer, sung from the perspective of a dead king remembering his time... "but that was when I ruled the world".

I hear either anxiety or depression or both. Whichever of those leads to being convinced you're a horrible person and letting the things you have slip away from you because you think you don't deserve them. And not knowing what to do about it because you don't know or care about why you're so horrible and undeserving. You just are.
