Movie Portrayals that looked just like your mental image of the character

(Anonymous) 2016-06-17 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
The reverse of the thread higher up: what are some examples of when a film or TV adaptation version of a character looks incredibly spot-on similar to your mental image of the character in the book?

Galadriel, probably.

Yup. Cate Blanchett kind of looks otherworldly in real life anyway. She's the closest the movies got to look right for me when it came to the elves. Thranduil, too, was pretty close.

GILDEROY LOCKHART

Like ommmgggg the most perfect casting ever, and the ridiculously over-done clothes and hair was perfect too.

I imagined him a bit younger, but other than that he was pretty much perfect.

He really lived that part.

I KNOW RIGHT? IT'S EVERYTHING I IMAGINED LOCKHART TO BE.

Eomer was great. I also thought Old Bilbo was pretty spot on. Treebeard was excellent. Gimli and Gandalf were good too.

A lot of the main cast for Harry Potter were how I pictured them, especially the main trio.

Yeah, blue eyes and bad haircuts notwithstanding, there was something VERY "Harry" about Daniel Radcliffe.

Snape looked pretty much like the way I'd imagine him looking.

He looked sort of like I imagined. But less greasy and at least ten years older.

Minerva McGonagall. Lucius Malfoy. A lot of the adult Harry Potter cast really. Also Luna. And Neville.

Aragorn was pretty close. Eomer was great. Gandalf. Saruman. Eowyn was pretty good. Really Rohan casting in general was great. Gimli was great (not so much what they did with the character, but the look was great). Boromir and Faramir were great (they really did look kind of like brothers). Both Bilbo castings were great.

J. K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson in the 2002 Spider-Man movie.

The first thing I thought when I saw him in the role was, " Damn, they must have taken some old comic books into a secret lab, stuck them into a vat, pressed a few buttons, and out pops JJJ. "

Harry Dresden. Not tall enough, but otherwise perfect for me (only one season, 5ever bitter)

Hercule Poirot as portrayed by David Sachet, and Sherlock Holmes by Jeremy Brett.

Ages of the older generation characters notwithstanding, I thought Gary Oldman fit my mental image (before finding anime art) of Sirius Black to a T.
