Re: Book characters who you pictured very differently from the movie portrayal

50 for a Hobbit is about 30 I think? Anyway, Frodo was 33 at the beginning of Fellowship, and that translates to early 20s I think. So not the same as human aging, but not as much as the movie would make us think. Elijah looks like he's late teens, maybe early 20s in the movies. He certainly doesn't look 30.

Yeah, in the book, he's definitely treated as older. Pippin and Merry seem more established than they are in the movies; they don't read as teens, and they treat Frodo like he's much older. And Frodo is "retiring" - it all reads as him being older than the others. None of that comes across on screen.
