(Anonymous) 2016-06-18 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)First off, people can be objectified regardless of profession. Or do you think inappropriate teacher/student relationships don't actually exist? Or that people don't ever want to bang their doctor, or hot young police officer, or even the guy who mows the grass?
I'll admit there are more boobs on GoT than penises, but let's not pretend he's the cause of his own misery and the solution is for him to stop following his passion.
And I don't know WHAT article you read, but your view is contributing to the problem he is complaining about. "Oh, the sexism is worse for women, so naturally the problem doesn't exist for men and/or they don't have the right to complain!" I saw nothing in there implying that men have it worse. He just says it happens to both sexes, just in case people aren't aware of it.

Sure they can. But seriously, which is the profession/industry fucking built on the practice. Actors often need to look good/great/perfect and this isn't a secret. It is an inherent part of the job for most of them, especially for certain roles. (Compare being an actor on a comedy or a procedural vs a soap type show like Grey's Anatomy, for example.) I have much more sympathy for someone who is objectified as a teacher or doctor or whatever, because those industries aren't built on it.

It's not even just boobs. Look at the full nudity. Who is it happening to again?
And I'm not saying to stop following his passion, just to be aware that many roles, especially in certain kinds of shows/movies will have objectification as part of them. It is much less likely to happen in theater or in certain roles, like the aforementioned comedies and procedurals. Hell, even serious dramas/oscar-bait stuff. If he takes a job that requires him to look good and that has nudity as part of the source material, he had better be aware that this will be part of it. It's not even like GoT is based on an unknown source.

And I'm saying people are aware of it. It just seems ridiculous to complain about it when it is a known quantity and others have it worse. Boo hoo, I have to show off my abs that I worked so hard for because it is practically required in this industry and certain roles, like the one I took. He didn't have to accept that role and he could quit that role to find one that didn't have any objectification as part of it. There are many, many more roles of that sort for men than for women (just look at action roles; there are a lot more like Transformers with the not-sexy guy and the sexy girl than there are Avengers with equal opportunity sexiness/objectification), so he has a much easier chance of finding one than they do. And, yes, I do have a really hard time caring about his objectification given the rape titillation and the like for women on the show. I find someone needing to look pretty with their shirt off (for either gender) a lot less concerning than that.
