There are degrees of it, though.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Can you give me an example? I'm a bit face blind, and I can never tell how attractive people are supposed to be.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I think that a CW show - like Flash or Arrow or Supergirl now - is generally going to have a more conventionally attractive cast than, like, a CBS procedural, for instance, like NCIS or whatever.

Not that anyone on NCIS is ugly but it feels like a show like Arrow really, really, really has a great-looking cast and emphasizes that.

DA I'm not trying to be bitchy here, but I find that all US show casts now look kinda... samey. It's a bit boring.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, I'm not disagreeing. There's certain trends. At the same time there's enough people out there that I like that I can live with it.

I genuinely don't mean this as an attack, just as an observation: You have a curiously shallow approach to media.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
NA

Lol, this is a pretty - to use your word - "bitchy" observation, for someone who's "not trying to be bitchy."

Is pointing out that north american media is pretty objectively shallow (ESPECIALLY when it comes to main characters/shows aimed at the under thirty crowd) a bitchy observation though?

I mean, AYRT wasn't rude or aggressive in the way they stated it, and it's pretty damn true.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, with respect, and I don't think it's a big deal, but anon didn't say that North American media was shallow, they said that the anon they were talking to was shallow

Like it was definitely directed at a specific person
comma_chameleon: (Why?!)

[personal profile] comma_chameleon 2016-06-19 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I misread it since the anon's original comment was about US media being samey, I took it as a royal 'you' not a 'you specifically are shallow'.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
You say that as if other regions' media is... not? It's a pretty universal problem.

I think it's distinctly more prevalent/obvious in NA media? At least from my experience anyway?

I mean, most french/UK TV/movies I've seen seem to have a greater varietal of looks from conventionally non-attractive to conventionally attractive.

I haven't seen too many Bollywood films with conventionally unattractive people, but at the same time, I don't watch any Indian TV shows so I don't know if movies are the exception and the TV shows are more realistic.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really. It's one aspect that I like about shows. It just happens to be the specific one that we're talking about right now.
