I feel like shows themselves get more of a pass with repeated names, but yeah, fic doesn't need to try to act like reality by including repeat names. Authors can expect that anyone into the fandom enough to read fic will recoginze a lot of one-off characters and get confused.

I mean, they have a certain style of show. If it doesn't work for you, it doesn't work for you. But I don't think there's anything wrong with it. Making cheap, slightly trashy, slightly pulpy stuff with great-looking casts is a fine methodology and a lot of people enjoy it and I don't think anyone is really going into it with their eyes closed, you know?

Interesting. I only remember two secrets about specific fics, and I don't think they were identified in either case. If it was either of those, then I don't think you need to worry about coming back if you want to. Noone will make the connection.
